TO ‘DEVELOP’
IS TO BUILD
WITHOUT DESTROYING

Most land ‘development’ involves destroying and displacing existing ecology. In addition, the building materials end up in a landfill at the end of its life cycle.

Not any more. At Darwin Live Light, we make buildings that are pre engineered, modular, stylish and sustainable as they are both relocatable and reusable. We use materials like steel, structurally insulated panels (SIP) and aluminium to make for resource-efficient, lightweight, and low-maintenance structures that can be customised to your requirement. And with our computer-modelled manufacturing process, we can fabricate these buildings anywhere in the world, thereby, saving on transportation costs associated with most other prefabricated buildings.

In addition, our structures are also easier to transport (as they are flat packed), quick to assemble on site and don't require a plinth. This makes Darwin Live Light a smarter, lighter, and more sustainable building solution compared to even other prefabricated buildings.

‘PERMANENTLY IMPERMANENT’ BUILDINGS ARE THE FUTURE!

As temporary inhabitants of this planet, it is now more important than ever to take responsibility for nurturing it. The idea of 'cohabiting' with nature instead of 'inhabiting' it can be a game changer. Unfortunately, the building industry is one of the most wasteful and inefficient, with conventional on-site building methods being messy, resource-depleting, and costly.

Pre-engineered modular buildings made in a factory and assembled on-site offer a cleaner, more sustainable and cost-effective alternative to traditional methods. They present a viable solution to the environmental challenges faced by the building industry. Therefore, it is argued that adopting this technology can take us a few steps closer to the idea of a 'circular economy'.

FROM PROJECTS

TO PRODUCTS

“As project timelines shrink, skilled workers become harder to find, and costs increase across the construction sector, prefabricated options are becoming even more appealing to architects, engineers, and contractors. Prefabricated buildings allow project leaders to reduce waste, improve cost predictability and speed up the production processes compared to traditional construction methods – in some cases, up to 80% faster than conventional approaches.” Thomas Index Report 2020.

MANUFACTURE- DELIVER-INSTALL

Hassle free execution

A greenfield project of a holiday resort, commercial space or a public space can be overwhelming, fraught with complex logistical issues, delays and budgetary as well as environmental challenges. Specially if it is in a remote natural habitat. On the other hand, with Darwin, maximum work is done offsite in a controlled environment. We manufacture it, we deliver it and we install it!

Darwin

Our process is simple

Our team will work with you from the feasibility
consultation through to design and material selection to assembly on site.

STEP 1

FEASIBILITY CONSULTATION

The first step in order to see if a Darwin will work for you and your property is to start a feasibility assessment.

Consultation with your Architect / Local contractor

- Review building location, orientation, foundation options and site-specific requirements

- Selection of model of Darwin that is most suitable for the site

- Design proposal to move onto Step 2

STEP 2

DESIGN AND ENGINEERING

Once the design proposal is signed in step 1 we will provide you with the following

Schematic Design

- For Bucky and Nomad

- 3D visual of your project where you can make revisions or approve and move onto the drawings

DP Set of Drawings

- For Bucky and Nomad

- Site plan, floor plans, elevations, sections, and initial foundation design.

- First draft of architectural set of drawings.

- Budget approval

- For Leggo Provide the grid and block specifications for design development to your

architect and get the approved building plan

Engineering

- Structural Foundation design

- Energy calculations

- Septic design

- Soil report

Interior Design and Finishes

- Interior surface and layout design

- Details of doors windows and fittings

- MEP and automation selection

STEP 3

PERMIT SUBMITTAL AND COMPUTER MODELING

Once all architectural, engineering, Interior design is complete,

all drawings and accompanying documentation are compiled and can be

submitted for Building Permits and final computer modeling starts

STEP 4

SITE WORK STARTS

- At key stages of construction, we will provide updates on your Darwin.

- Your local contractor begins site preparation and foundation work.

STEP 5

PACKING AND SHIPPING OF YOUR DARWIN

STEP 6

ONSITE  INSTALLATION

Once you confirm that your site is ready to receive your Darwin,

we send the Darwin installation team to your site to supervise the installation under your local contractor.

STEP 7

FINAL INSPECTION AND HANDOVER

Have a question for us?

Yes. There is versatility in layout and finishes in Bucky and Nomad models. Whereas in Leggo model your architect can design any layout and finish within a given framework.

Is Darwin a Container Home?

No. unlike a container home, Darwin is a building kit of parts that has to be assembled on site.

Yes. There is versatility in layout and finishes in Bucky and Nomad models. Whereas in Leggo model your architect can design any layout and finish within a given framework.

Is Darwin a temporary or a permanent space?

Darwin has all features of a permanent structures but provides the option for being dismantled.

Yes. There is versatility in layout and finishes in Bucky and Nomad models. Whereas in Leggo model your architect can design any layout and finish within a given framework.

What is a pile foundation?

Is your location remote? Are you wanting to save a neighboring tree? Pile foundations are the fastest and most environment friendly option that make building a foundation easy (screw piles do not work in bedrock applications). Pile foundations are less invasive and each pile acts as a footing where even a manually operated auger bit can drill into the ground.

Yes. There is versatility in layout and finishes in Bucky and Nomad models. Whereas in Leggo model your architect can design any layout and finish within a given framework.

Is Darwin customisable?

Yes. There is versatility in layout and finishes in Bucky and Nomad models. Whereas in Dwello model your architect can design any layout and finish within a given framework.

Yes. There is versatility in layout and finishes in Bucky and Nomad models. Whereas in Leggo model your architect can design any layout and finish within a given framework.

If it's considered permanent does that mean I can't move it?

Yes, you can move it. Though the cost of dismantling and shifting would have to be considered.

Yes. There is versatility in layout and finishes in Bucky and Nomad models. Whereas in Leggo model your architect can design any layout and finish within a given framework.

Where can I install Darwin?

Darwin Bucky requires a flat ground where as Nomad and Dwello can even be on undulating landscape. Bucky is an anchored building without any foundation whereas Dwello and Nomad are on pile foundations.

Yes. There is versatility in layout and finishes in Bucky and Nomad models. Whereas in Leggo model your architect can design any layout and finish within a given framework.

Is Darwin weather and sound insulated?

Yes. Darwin can have customised insulation for both weather and sound.

Yes. There is versatility in layout and finishes in Bucky and Nomad models. Whereas in Leggo model your architect can design any layout and finish within a given framework.

What is the lifespan of a Darwin?

Darwin's life span is comparable to any steel frame or brick and mortar building with proper maintenance.

Yes. There is versatility in layout and finishes in Bucky and Nomad models. Whereas in Leggo model your architect can design any layout and finish within a given framework.

How long does it take to get a Darwin to fabricate and erect?

Depending on the number of units and location it would require 4 to 6 months to fabricate and erect the Darwin models.
